The Mepps Comet is definitely an intermediate variant between the Aglia and Aglia Long series. The Comet has brightly coloured dots on the blade. Experienced anglers, while acknowledging the usefulness of this colouring, are divided on the reasons for its effectiveness. Some believe that the dots on the petal increase the contrast of the colouring, thereby provoking the fish to attack. In their opinion, proof of this is the catch rate of Comet in murky water. Others, on the contrary, are of the opinion that the same dots, when rotating, merge into soft lines, make the colouring calmer, which is less alarming to fish and gives the lure the appearance of an insect.
